Bodybuilding Hall of Fame – #20 Mohamed Makkawy
One of my favorite bodybuilders of all time is Mohamed Makkawy. Fluent in 4 languages, he tore up the IFBB pro scene in 1982 and 1983, winning more than his fair share of Grand Prix titles. Short, at 5’4″, he possessed a ruggedness and chiseled musculature that was far ahead of most of his peers.
He did his contest training with Vince Gironda, who took awesome artwork in the form of a body and turned it into a masterpiece.
For all of that, Mohamed Makkawy is #20 in Muscle-Build.com’s Hall of Fame!

I really don’t know a lot about body builder Mohamed Makkawy. I have to agree with the above comment about how his physique, muscles and one of the best body that I have seen in a body builder.
I couldn’t agree more! Can you tell me how long you’ve been training and what your thoughts are on hst type routines?
thanks again for the nice article
Ironjunky – I’ve been training over 30 years. HST…hmm, I’ve never personally tried it, but it looks very similar to what I do anyway – train with intensity, always increasing weights and volume for several weeks at a time, then either resting for a brief time or moving to a maintenance routine, then starting over again…there’s probably a lot more to it than that, but that’s the gist, no?

The beginner bodybuilder would first aim to achieve a certain number of repetitions, with a certain weight (say 10 repetitions with 50 kilograms on the bench press). The following week, 2.5 kilograms would be added, and so on, until the lifter can only complete six-eight repetitions.
The aim will then be to, once again, complete 10 repetitions with the weight they are currently achieving six-eight with. The truth is, the only way to progress in bodybuilding is to subject the muscles to greater a greater level of intensity on a continual basis – commonly known as progressive resistance training.
@ Rich of course, progressive resistance and overload are the keys!
Mohamed Makkawy really has an amazing body. His body is perfect and i wish my body was like his, But its not
@ Homa – Yes, his body is perfect. He really had a lot of success back then; I’m a little disappointed that he didn’t win an O though – he certainly had the goods!
