POP Goes the Elbow
Yesterday, I was doing some yard work. A week back, we bought some bushes and a tree for our never-ending backyard renovation. I had planted one bush and had to move some stuff around to make room for another bush planting.
That's when it happened.
As I picked up the sheet of plywood, my straightened right arm went "POP" at the elbow. Searing pain shot up and down my right arm. Not sure what the injury is…of course, I finished the job virtually one-handed, took some pain meds, and iced it several times before going to sleep last night.
This morning, I am in quite a lot of pain. There is a little constant pain, and when I bend my arm with my palm up, there is more (but manageable) pain. However, when I try to straighten (or bend) my arm with my palm down, oh boy, the pain is off the chart.
Off to the doctor I go! I'll try to figure out how in between dropping off the oldest boy at school, attending class with my youngest, and then talking with the tax guy at lunch time…I might get to the doctor this afternoon.
Darn it all. I really didn't need this!

Hope you get the elbow fixed up man. I have a dislocated ulna nerve (from baseball), and I know how much it stinks to have such an important joint out of commission.
Take care of that thing!
Ben
I went to the family chiropractor who specializes in sports medicine and I think he’s got me on the path to a speedy and full recovery. He did a thorough exam (I’ve never had an MD of any kind, even orthopedic surgeons, do anything near this comprehensive), did some deep muscle massage, and gave me the works as far as treatment and testing.
I’ve got all my strength and he doesn’t think there are any major tears in any soft tissue. Thinks it’s one of the muscles that pronates the forearm that is strained. Taped me up and I’m back in tomorrow. He thinks I’ll be fine in a couple of weeks.
I am quite relieved. Oh, it feels a TON better today, too. Very sore from the digging he did with his fingers, but there’s much less pain and a lot more mobility. Yay!
Guess who’s hitting the legs tonight? Yep, that and some serious interval training on the bike. Might as well dive right into the conditioning phase while I’m “out.”
@ Ben, thanks for the encouragement. This is a pretty painful strain. I've been hit by a car, fallen off stuff, lifted shit I shouldn't even contemplate, but this – picking up a sheet of plywood. Brilliant!
Hope you're feeling better. Nerve damage is tough.
Hope you are feeling a lot more better today…try not to move your hand much…Thank God, there is no major problem…I am sure you will be ok soon
Glad you are feeling better man. Had the nerve thing for about 11 years. As long as I don't haul off and sling a baseball, I am usually pretty good (it's the sudden straigtening that gets me).
Way get on the lower half, too, man. Most people would use it as an excuse not to lift. You're using it as an excuse to lift something else!
@ Ben Thanks! I feel a lot better. And yes, I can focus on my legs and cardiovascular conditioning. Why not?
Seems like the perfect excuse. Thanks for commenting. Keep reading
Aargh. I've popped my shoulder but this sounds much more painfull. Hope you made a good recovery m8
Thanks, it’s still a little iffy, even after a long rehab.
