Scary Supplement Video
You may find the video below "interesting," if not totally scary. I will say that I think most mainstream supplement companies make safe products. I'm not sure that they're effective, but at least they won't kill you.
However, who's to say that the latest diet pill wasn't made in somebody's bathtub?
This is NOT my condemnation of the supplement industry. Rather, it's simply a peek into how some of the unscrupulous companies operate. If you stick with name brand "basic" supplements like protein powders, creatine, amino acids, and vitamins and minerals, you're going to get what you pay for.
Beware the "proprietary blend." It might just be crap.
- Supplement Layering As you may know from many of my previous posts, I have a bittersweet relationship with food supplements! You could say that I love to hate the supplement companies. Or, I hate to love them sometimes! There are a ton of useless supplements on the market. But there are some......

This one comes from a newbie trainer who wanted to know how to build his body and what were the best foods to eat in order to do so. Muscle-Building Foods and Exercise Program......
- How to Consume More Protein Without Supplements Food supplements can be very expensive. Whey protein powders are all the rage. They're made from milk, are easily digestible, and hit the bloodstream very quickly. However, they are fairly expensive. For the guy or gal who wants to build quality, lean muscle mass, the typical guideline is to take......

- Hardgainer Bodybuilding "Everybody who's ever picked up a weight thinks he's a hardgainer." There is a nasty little term that a lot of weight trainers use - "hardgainer." What is a hardgainer and how should a hardgainer train to promote maximum muscle mass? I say "nasty" because every kid who lifts and......

- Vitamins And Alcohol Alcohol abuse causes damage to the liver, pancreas, intestines and brain. - Supplementing with a Fat Burner I have decided to implement a small change. I started taking a fat burner supplement. I don't know if it scares me, or makes me want to open a company…
Seriously though, basic rules: stay away from the crazy new better than steroids stuff and stick with the basics… from a big, reputable company.
Thanks for posting the video. Eye opening in a funny, "stay with you" kind of way.
Actually, the only problem we have in the US is that the government attempts to regulate too much.
We have more people in prison in the US than any nation on Earth, including North Korea, Burma and China.
Each State produces approximately two thousand new laws per year. Congress a few thousand more, and the local city counsels many thousands of more rules and regulations.
Currently, it is impossible for a person to take a trip to the center of any major city in America and not violate an ordinance, State of Federal law.
In other words, we have lost our freedom in America basically becomes, by definition our people think it is SCARY any time their fellow citizen is free to do anything that isn't covered by statute, or regulation.
Now THAT for me is scary.

Ann, yes, I just saw it and removed it from SPAM and approved it. I’ll comment there. I wish I knew how to permanently fix the issue…but I think it’s Akismet, web-wide.
That worked
@ Ann Have you read Free to Choose by Milton Friedman? He wrote in the ’50s about this phenomenon. I think the reason is that nobody wants to take personal responsibility for anything so they leave it up to “the government.” I believe we need some basic regulations, but nobody should be able to tell me what I can and cannot do in my own house, for example.
All that said, though, the supplement industry is kind of scary
You don’t know if it’s creatine, saw dust, or arsenic. I guess the market could determine success; after hundreds took the supp and died, consumers would flee to another company or product. The fact that most of the stuff in supplements comes from China concerns me. There’s been way too many cases of poison, antifreeze, and other crap found in their products.
But I do agree that we have gone too far.
@ Ben I hear you! And I totally agree with you on your advice.
I worked briefly for a supplement manufacturer that used some unethical business practices. Once the owner realized that I wasn't going to go along with cheating the customers, I was told my position in the company was no longer needed.
Since it's an unregulated industry, it just comes down to "Buyer Beware."
That documentary by Chris Bell(Bigger, Stronger, Faster) is awesome. For anyone that likes to train, or has any interest in sports, especially strength or physique competitions, they need to see it.
Yes, Aaron, I have to see this entire movie. Is it on Netflix?
Yes it is. It made me rethink the whole athletes taking performance enhancing drugs topic. I think you'll find it very interesting.
