How Lost Sleep Kills Your Fat Loss Plans
How Lost Sleep Kills Your Fat Loss Plans
Whether you are a college student, night shift worker or you are a parent with small children you may struggle to get regular sleep yet you want quick weight loss. The sleep recommendation provided by the National Sleep Foundation recommends 8 hours per night. According to the CDC and a National Health Interview Survey shows that 30% of Americans who are 30-64 years of age sleep less than 6 hours per night.

There is a prevalence of chronic sleep loss in America and it is troubling because for those looking to lose weight or who are following a healthy weight loss diet plan their attempts may be wasted. Research is showing that long term sleep loss is related to an increase in obesity and diabetes.
This research is even showing that partial sleep deprivation can manipulate key hormones that impact weight loss and weight gain. Lack of sleep can also affect insulin sensitivity, your appetite control and the amount of energy you expend when at rest. When these key hormones are affected it can predispose you to weight gain and obesity by causing insulin resistance.

I have a sleep problems. I can't slep early .do anyone knows to help me?
Being a call center agent, I already have a sleeping disorder due to my graveyard schedules and i really don't know how to cope up with this. Sometimes I could only sleep for about 2-3 hours a day. I think I need to see a sleep specialist regarding on this. Anyway, thanks for the article, it really helps a lot.
I worked before as a telemarketer and it changed my lifestyle. Thanks for this interesting post regarding sleep.
@ Camille – the employment world ever-changing as it is, we are going to find more and more people with sleep issues. Hopefully, we can adapt.
@ Brad – Lots of folks are in your shoes, Brad. The body has been genetically programmed to sleep when the sun has gone down. It’s hard to turn back the clock on thousands of years of evolution.
@ Engrape – you may want to check out the following links where I’ve written about sleep –

I've enjoy to sleep 5 hour per day. This work acoholic make me need more time than 24 hours. Do you have any idea how to loss weight with sleep only 3-5 hours / day?
i need that
My problem is the same as Engrape Financier. Although i feel sleepy, when go to bed, i just close the eyes, but can't go into the sleep.
Long term sleep loss has a dominoe effect on our health and could lead to serious health problems if not given proper medical attention. As for myself I would never exchange my regular sleeping habit to a good paying job as call center agent. Anyway, thanks a lot for sharing this post. Keep it up!
Never knew this! Thanks for sharing this
i have too much problem i cant sleep at night, what i will do plz help me. also i like this post regarding sleep.
Wow, I myself have seen this in real life, I'd go to sleep having done a circuit class earlier for 6 hours and wake up feeling more heavier, more fatter than when I had 10 hours, so this helps a lot and really does nail it down to everyone that sleep/rest, is great for weight loss.
This is very true. Lost sleep is also one factor that could cause obesity. I've experienced it actually when I was working as a call center agent. I really eat a lot whenever I get few hours of sleep. Maybe it has something to do with our hormones. But anyway, it's really important that we get enough sleep to stay fit and healthy. Very informative post, thanks for sharing.
